My name is Emma McMurray and I would like to introduce myself, I am a qualified equine body worker.

I have been involved with horses for the past 27 years and at a competitive level. I am qualified and registered sports and therapeutic massage therapist for the 2 legged, have been a tutor for anatomy and human massage and also running Equine Performance Therapy.

I graduated from Wellpark College in 2000 with a Diploma in Remedial Massage and with Sports Modalities included. I ran my own clinic in Albany based in a gym for 10 years treating a variety of people including riders, multi-sporters, rugby players, golfers, cyclists and office workers with ailments.

I became qualified in Equine Bowen about 15 years ago but felt that this was not quite enough and wanted more anatomical and structural training. This led me to complete 4 dissections, 2 at Lincoln University under the expertise of the world-renowned Dr. Deb Bennett who has studied horses all her life and more recently I have completed a dissection and biomechanics course with Dr. Sharon May-Davies. I have also gained certification as IEBW (International Equine Body Worker), completing and passing the first Equine sports massage course held in New Zealand.

I have completed Equine Craniosacral Therapy 1& 2 with a cranial dissection, a Diploma in Equine Acupressure, Equinology’s clinical reasoning with Dr. Kerry Ridgeway in South Africa. To add to my treatments I have a spectra vet low-level laser and other massage tools.

I have been operating Equine Performance Therapy since 2001 treating a wide range of horses and problems. In 2010 I moved to Singapore for 3 years where I was fortunate to be able to work at the Singapore Jockey Club, the Singapore Polo Club and the National Equestrian Centre furthering my experiences. Whilst in Singapore I gained my BHSAI qualification and am currently studying for a Personal Trainer here in NZ to help both horse and rider.

Riding for the Disabled Association provides free therapeutic riding to the disabled community in Singapore. Many of these riders have limited balance, movement, poor muscle tone, circulation, and coordination. Our horses are the main source that provides the unique form of therapy to these special children and adults, which often causes the horses to suffer from sore backs, including muscle tightness.

Emma volunteered her professional services to RDA to relieve our horses of the soreness and stiffness they acquire from therapeutic riding. Emma is also volunteering her riding skills to help with a Para competition horse and an afternoon with our disabled riders.

We have seen a significant improvement in the horses she has worked on; she has provided minimal treatments to get this result.

Emma McMurray has been treating my horse Cleome for the last few years. Without Emma doing her Cranial, Bowen, massage, laser, and acupressure on my horse monthly and then fortnightly over the show season I would not be able to compete at the level I do. Emma has been so reliable and even come to shows in the morning to treat my horse if I have needed. Emma is professional and on time and has a great work ethic. Without Emma over the last few years, I do not think I would have done so well in my riding.

Cleome is not the easiest horse to deal with as she is a very sensitive mare with major head issues. At times you can not even put a bridle on her and Emma has such patience with her and slowly works away and by the end of the treatment, Cleo is so relaxed.

It is a true loss to the horse world with Emma moving to Singapore. I know Cleome and I and many others with be struggling without her to treat our horse and riders.
